IAN RASMUSSEN, ESQ, AICP

Ian Rasmussen is the principal and founder of Urban Cartographics. He started the firm with the goal of arming land use attorneys with a way to effectively communicate their arguments using maps and graphics. Prior to transitioning to Urban Cartographics full time, Ian practiced zoning law in New York City, most recently with the Law Offices of Marvin B. Mitzner, and he remains on the City Bar's Land Use Planning and Zoning committee. Ian holds a B.B.A. in Economics from Baruch College and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

MIYA ALCIVAR

Miya Alcivar is our office manager and bookkeeper who has been with Urban Cartographics since 2013. She has over 15 years of back office experience, serving in both administrative and financial roles. Prior to joining Urban Cartographics, she honed her skills at various organizations such as the Fashion Institute of Technology, Chase Bank, and the Law Offices Of Marvin B. Mitzner LLC. Miya has received training and accreditation in several domains (Series 6, Series 63, QuickBooks, and Accounting & Bookkeeping), and fluent in several languages (Spanish, French). In her spare time, Miya enjoys volunteering at construction projects and disaster relief sites.

AUSTIN COURY

Austin Coury is a project manager who has been with Urban Cartographics since 2017. His various roles include graphic design, research and filings at various City agencies, and overseeing the timing and management of the firm's many projects. Prior to joining the team at Urban Cartographics, Austin worked with the New York City Department of Transportation's Office of Strategic Communications as a content creator and administrative aide. He is a dean's list graduate of New York University, holding a B.A. in Urban Design and Architecture as well as Spanish.

ALONSO ESPINOZA

Alonso Espinoza is the newest addition to the team. He has been with Urban Cartographics as a project manager since 2019. Before his time with the firm, Alonso worked as a writer and podcast host at a publication called ThisistheBronX. He is a graduate from CUNY Hunter college and majored in media studies with a concentration in journalism.

MICHAEL LOEW

Michael has worked with Urban Cartographics since 2014 as a cartographer and designer. He has an undergraduate architecture degree, with a minor in urban planning, from the University of Virginia, and he is also a graduate of the Green Worker Cooperatives business management course. He is a board member of the Lefferts Community Food Cooperative, and often collaborates with collectives like MayDay Space and Third Root Community Health Center to build commons-based approaches to community needs.

ALAINA YURESKO

Alaina Yuresko is a graphic designer, and the firm’s director of graphic standards. She has been with Urban Cartographics since 2018. Prior to joining the team at Urban Cartographics, Alaina worked with the New York City Department of Transportation's Office of Strategic Communications as a photographer and digital designer. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Fordham University, holding a B.A. in New Media & Digital Design and Journalism.
