IAN RASMUSSEN, ESQ, AICP
Ian Rasmussen is the principal and founder of Urban Cartographics. He started the firm with the goal of arming land use attorneys with a way to effectively communicate their arguments using maps and graphics. Prior to transitioning to Urban Cartographics full time, Ian practiced zoning law in New York City, most recently with the Law Offices of Marvin B. Mitzner, and he remains on the City Bar's Land Use Planning and Zoning committee. Ian holds a B.B.A. in Economics from Baruch College and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
AUSTIN COURY
Austin Coury is a project manager who has been with Urban Cartographics since 2017. His various roles include graphic design, research and filings at various City agencies, and overseeing the timing and management of the firm's many projects. Prior to joining the team at Urban Cartographics, Austin worked with the New York City Department of Transportation's Office of Strategic Communications as a content creator and administrative aide. He is a dean's list graduate of New York University, holding a B.A. in Urban Design and Architecture as well as Spanish.
ALONSO ESPINOZA
Alonso Espinoza is the newest addition to the team. He has been with Urban Cartographics as a project manager since 2019. Before his time with the firm, Alonso worked as a writer and podcast host at a publication called ThisistheBronX. He is a graduate from CUNY Hunter college and majored in media studies with a concentration in journalism.
MICHAEL LOEW
Michael has worked with Urban Cartographics since 2014 as a cartographer and designer. He has an undergraduate architecture degree, with a minor in urban planning, from the University of Virginia, and he is also a graduate of the Green Worker Cooperatives business management course. He is a board member of the Lefferts Community Food Cooperative, and often collaborates with collectives like MayDay Space and Third Root Community Health Center to build commons-based approaches to community needs.
ALAINA GREENE
Alaina Greene is a land use and zoning law consultant and the firm's Director of Standards and Graphics. During their eight years with the firm, they have worked alongside zoning attorneys and architects to help facilitate hundreds of rezonings and approvals through zoning analyses, studies, maps, and graphics. Prior to her work with Urban Cartographics, Alaina worked in media relations at the NYC Department of Transportation. Alaina earned a B.A. in Journalism and New Media/Digital Design from Fordham University, graduating summa cum laude in 2018. They are currently pursuing their J.D. in the evening division at Fordham University School of Law.
